Glen Ullinish II
The proposed development is located on Skye and, if consent is granted, will replace the already consented Glen Ullinish Wind Farm.
Glen Ullinish II Wind Farm would maximise the contribution to Scotland’s climate change targets and also provide a far greater community benefit package and deliver more economic benefits for the people of Skye.
An application was originally submitted to the Scottish Ministers via the Energy Consents Unit in July 2023 for Glen Ullinish II Wind Farm. That proposal comprised 47 turbines, capable of generating up to 310.2 Megawatts (MW), a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with an indicative capacity of up to 120 MW, and associated infrastructure.
Following consultation and engagement with local residents, community groups, and statutory consultees, Muirhall Energy redesigned the proposal to address concerns raised and has now submitted Additional Environmental Information (AEI) providing the details and re-assessments of a reduced 33 turbine layout. Both layouts are shown below for comparison.
In the new layout, all turbines within the south of the Site have been removed, as has one of the substations. Most of the turbines in the north of the Site have been relocated to some extent, and one turbine has been moved to this area. These changes have been made in response to feedback received as laid out below.

All of the documents submitted to the Energy Consents Unit in support of this proposal, both the original EIA and the recent Additional Environmental Information, are available for viewing and download at the link below or at www.energyconsents.scot under application reference ECU00004829. The Non Technical Summary provides a helpful overview of what is contained in the detailed documents.
Printed copies of all documents are available to view in person at Portree Community Library, during normal opening hours, and at Struan Primary School, by arrangement with Struan Community Council.
The Scottish Government invites new responses to this application until 21 July 2025 and all previous representations submitted remain valid.

Ongoing Determination of Application
Muirhall Energy is passionate about leaving a lasting positive legacy for the site and surrounding communities and aim to maximise the financial benefit of the wind farm for the community.
The video above highlights some community projects recently supported in Minginish, Portree, Broadford, Uig and island wide through Skye Events.
Community Investment Fund
If the project is consented and built, a Community Investment Fund is launched to further support communities throughout the operational lifetime of the wind farm. Muirhall Energy offer an industry-leading £7,000 per MW which, for Glen Ullinish II, would equates to an annual fund of approximately £1.5 million, reaching almost £61 million over the lifetime of the wind farm.
Shared Ownership
Muirhall Energy would also offer up to 10% ownership of the proposed development to the surrounding communities, which if secured, could result in a substantial increase in community revenue available for local investment.
Initial Investment Fund
An Initial Investment Fund (IIF) opens to applications from community groups as soon as construction begins, distributing funding of £165,000 (£5,000 per turbine) to community projects around Glen Ullinish II wind farm.
At Muirhall Energy we understand the importance of conserving and aiding biodiversity and environmental sustainability. We are therefore fully committed to ensuring the Proposed Development will leave a positive impact on the site, as well as the local, and wider community.
Kirsty Battu, Project Manager
In September 2024, Muirhall Energy held consultation events to share, and seek feeedback on, the reduced 33 turbine layout ahead of the submission of Additional Environmental Information.
If you were unable to make the events, all consultation documents are available for viewing and download through the links below.
