Net Zero Week: Piecing together the energy jigsaw puzzle

9 July 2025

As politicians, decision makers and industry leaders gathered to celebrate Net Zero Week country-wide, independent Scottish renewable energy developer, Muirhall Energy, called for collective action and a renewed focus on delivering Power with a Purpose - underlining the urgent need to deliver robust energy solutions that prioritise local communities and support local economies.

With electricity demand projected to double by 2050, there is a collective effort UK-wide to bring forward the infrastructure required to support the delivery of further renewable energy.

With close to 700 MW in the planning system awaiting consent, Muirhall Energy is urging further action to support the sector by bringing the pieces of the energy jigsaw together, improving consenting timeframes and enabling developers to bring forward their buildable projects in line with government aspirations.

Andrew Liddell, Director of Business Development at Muirhall Energy, commented:

“The innovation and passion within the renewable energy industry is truly impressive. However, to meet the sheer scale of this challenge we need to be enabled to bring forward our buildable projects quickly. The celebrations for Net Zero Week were the perfect backdrop for putting all of the pieces of the energy jigsaw together.

“Muirhall Energy is working the length and breadth of the country to roll out a pipeline of 3.2 GW of onshore renewable energy. Every project represents a massive strategic opportunity for Scotland, but also for communities. Our focus is on how our developments can deliver for local communities, fostering local economic growth.”

Muirhall Energy's commitment to Power with a Purpose, means a resolute focus on meeting long-term energy needs whilst:

  • Remaking the case for decarbonising energy systems: Educating about the benefits of sustainable power - lower bills, enhanced energy security and economic net gain

  • Bringing forward proposals in response to future demand: Ensuring that local people and businesses across Scotland directly benefit from energy infrastructure

  • Innovating project delivery: Actively exploring opportunities to deliver local, low-cost energy solutions that can alleviate grid challenges and act as a catalyst for regional strategic economic growth - with direct benefits flowing back to the community

Andrew continued:

“While we must maintain our focus on grid improvements and reform, we must not let it overshadow the opportunities presented by being creative and flexible in meeting local needs. By working closely with local bodies, and government agencies, we can take significant strides towards Clean Power by 2030 but it is essential that these strides are taken hand in hand with local communities.”
