Independent Scottish renewable energy developer, Muirhall Energy, has awarded  £15,000  to local community groups in South Lanarkshire as part of its construction stage funding commitments for Priestgill Wind Farm - supporting local initiatives that aim to improve community well being, provide vital services and create a positive local impact.

The awards are the first from the Priestgill Wind Farm Initial Investment Fund, which is open to applications from community groups, clubs and charities based within the Crawford & Elvanfoot, and Duneaton Community Council areas in South Lanarkshire. £35,000 is available during the construction period and grants of up to £2,500 can be applied for.

The successful groups for this funding round are:

  • Lodge Abington Arbory 1081

  • Crawford Bowling Club

  • Abington Parent Council

  • Abington Primary School Fund

  • Crawford Primary School

  • Duneaton Community Trust

  • Abington Community Development Group

  • Coulter Primary School

  • Lamington Primary School

Projects range from upgraded heating for a community space, delivery of community events  and support to many nearby Primary Schools. These included Coulter Primary School’s community garden, outdoor learning trips for Lamington Primary and Abington Primary pupils, an outdoor shelter for Crawford Primary School and supporting outdoor learning for Abington Primary School.

Siobhan Jarvie, Communities Manager at Muirhall Energy, said:

“We received a raft of applications to the Priestgill Wind Farm Initial Investment Fund and we are delighted to support these community causes. This funding offers essential support to local groups, helping them to sustain the important services and initiatives that matter to people locally, prior to an active community benefit fund being in place.”

The total fund available throughout the construction period is £35,000. Once the wind farm is operational it will provide a community benefit fund valued at approximately £218,000 annually, for its operational lifetime.

Siobhan continued:  “This is just the start of the benefits Priestgill Wind Farm will bring. The long-term community benefit will provide lasting support for local projects, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact the Initial Investment Fund will make.”
