Priestgill Wind Farm Reaches Milestone, Boosting Scottish Businesses

Independent Scottish renewable energy developer Muirhall Energy has hit a major construction milestone at its Priestgill Wind Farm site in South Lanarkshire as turbine installation gets fully underway.

With all turbine components now safely delivered to site, and the first turbine now successfully installed on site last week, the 43.6MW, seven-turbine wind farm has now entered the turbine installation phase, representing a significant milestone in the project’s delivery. In particular, the arrival of Priestgill’s blades marked a major logistical achievement, with the components making an impressive journey to Scotland via the Clyde, before embarking on the final leg of the journey down the M74 to site.

The project received planning consent from South Lanarkshire Council in March 2021, with construction commencing in September 2025. Priestgill Wind Farm is expected to begin generating renewable electricity in Autumn 2026, producing enough clean electricity to power more than 40,000 homes.

Working with RJ McLeod as the Principal Contractor for construction, the project has also delivered millions of pounds of investment in Scottish businesses – with 75% of the total construction spend going to businesses within 50km of the site and 95% of the total construction spend remaining in Scotland.

In addition, Priestgill’s turbine supply contract with Nordex has contributed more than £2.5m to the Scottish and local economy – through local spend, port fees, storage, craneage services and transportation.

One of the many local suppliers for Priestgill Wind Farm is Grange Quarry from Lockerbie which manages all concrete requirements for turbine foundations.

Founded in 2000 Grange Quarry has grown into one of the leading suppliers of aggregates and ready-mix concrete across Southern Scotland and Northern England. The business employs a skilled local workforce and has extensive experience supporting renewable energy and infrastructure projects across the region.

Grange’s mobile batching division provides and operates concrete batching plants nationally, offering an efficient and flexible on-site solution for major construction projects, including wind farm developments.

Ahead of construction, Muirhall Energy and RJ McLeod joined forces to host a Meet the Buyer event in Abington, aimed at attracting and engaging local businesses. The event provided an opportunity for us to identify and connect with local suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring they were aware of the all the opportunities arising from these works.

“This commitment has delivered an exceptional local content outcome for the Priestgill Wind Farm, with more than 90% of project expenditure retained within Scotland, supporting jobs, strengthening regional supply chains, and contributing to long-term economic growth across the country.”

The project also includes an innovative self-delivered grid connection to Elvanfoot substation, comprising 12km of underground cables and overhead lines. Once operational, Priestgill Wind Farm will strengthen Scotland's renewable energy capacity while providing £218,000 per year in index linked community benefit funding for host communities in Clydesdale.
