Glen Ullinish Coastal Delivery Proposal Submitted

22 February 2024

Muirhall Energy has outlined proposals for a new quay facility to support the delivery of wind turbine components in the north west of Skye. The new quay would be located on the eastern shoreline of Loch Caroy, between Struan and Dunvegan.

Muirhall Energy has planning persmission to construct Glen Ullinish Wind Farm, and in 2023, submitted an application for a 47 turbine project, known as Glen Ullinish II Wind Farm, which would replace the original consent if granted planning permission. Currently, delivery of wind turbine components is planned for Kyle Harbour, via the A87 and A863. As part of the consultation events for Glen Ullinish II Wind Farm, concerns have been raised about the impact of deliveries on the local road network on local communities, businesses, tourism and emergency services.

The application proposes the construction of a new quay on the eastern shoreline of Loch Caroy to accommodate the delivery of turbine components, closer to the Wind Farm Site Access points, reducing the delivery route on public road networks from 40 miles, to just 2.

An Environmental Impact Assessment Scoping Report has been submitted to The Highland Council and Marine Scotland for their consideration.

The Glen Ullinish Coastal Delivery team, lead by Project Manager Andrew Marshall, carried out two days of community consultation events to allow local residents, and community groups to learn more about the proposal, and provide feedback.
