Muirhall fast approaching £4m milestone in community funding
Independent Scottish renewable energy developer, Muirhall Energy is set to achieve a major milestone, delivering £4m in funding to date to communities across Scotland - supporting a wide range of local causes and cementing the business’ commitment to partnership working locally.
Since launching its first community funding programme in 2011, which has evolved over time to exceed current Scottish Government Good Practice guidelines, Muirhall Energy has awarded donations to hundreds of community groups and charitable initiatives nationwide. Support has helped to enable and sustain a diverse range of community-led projects from village halls, sports clubs, schools and STEM learning programmes.
Funding from Muirhall Energy has become a cornerstone of many community and charitable causes the length and breadth of Scotland - reinforcing the importance of partnership working with communities in the areas that it develops, constructs and operates renewable energy projects.
Placing communities at the heart of every project, Muirhall Energy delivers community funding at each stage of their projects’ lifecycle - through development, construction and operation.
This includes a small grant and sponsorship fund for community initiatives during development, initial investment funds of £5k per turbine for construction projects and an industry leading £7k per MW during the operational phase.
In 2025 alone, more than £375,000 was awarded to communities across South Lanarkshire, the Highlands, Perthshire, the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway. These funds have supported a variety of local initiatives, including:
Upgrades to Community halls & outdoor spaces £25,194
Supporting local sports clubs (incl Shinty, Rugby, Football, Curling & Bowling) £12,720
Supporting youth clubs and uniform groups £3,000
Schools extra curricula activities & outdoor learning £16,124
Food banks and local pantries £24,000
Sarah McIntosh. Muirhall Energy Managing Director, commented:
“We are proud to have supported so many deserving clubs, charities, and community groups across Scotland.
“At Muirhall Energy, we hold a simple but firm belief - communities must be placed at the very heart of the development, construction and operation of our projects and this is reflected in our sector leading approach to engagement, consultation and community investment.
“By working so closely with local organisations, and through supporting local initiatives, we believe that we can deliver a tangible and sustainable difference to the communities in which we operate.”
Additionally, Muirhall Energy delivered community shared ownership at Crossdykes Wind Farm, one of the largest subsidy-free, shared ownership projects in the UK. When Muirhall Energy sold the wind farm in 2022, the community chose to sell its stake, receiving a significant seven-figure sum as a return. This allowed them to repay the loan immediately and reinvest the profits into local initiatives.
As a key part of Muirhall Energy’s industry leading community investment package, alongside community benefit funding, the company also offers up to 10% shared ownership on all new sites.
