Ice Rink at Portree

Muirhall Energy supports Skye community with pop up ice rink

29 January 2026

Independent Scottish renewable energy developer, Muirhall Energy, has helped to support Portree and Braes Community Trust to bring a temporary synthetic ice rink to Portree Community Centre in Skye.

The initiative attracted over 1,500 skaters and over 400 spectators throughout the week in January, including groups from island primary schools, from local youth clubs and young carers groups. Families from across Skye and beyond travelled to Portree to join in the fun with pop-up cafes, run by small community groups, providing refreshments while raising vital funds for local causes.

Portree and Braes Community Trust secured sponsorship from a range of local businesses and community members to help make the ice rink a reality. Muirhall Energy contributed £500, helping to create a fun and inclusive activity which supported local fundraising and provided a much-needed boost to community spirits during the dark winter months.

Siobhan Jarvie, Communities Lead at Muirhall Energy said:

“We are really proud to have supported this fun community initiative, helping to bring a bit of joy to Portree in January and it was fantastic to see so many residents enjoying themselves.

“At Muirhall Energy we support a variety of local projects and this is the first time we have helped to bring an ice rink to a community. Its a great idea and we hope that it will be back next year.”
