Skye Stroke Survivors Benefit from Funding

22 December 2025

Independent Scottish renewable energy developer, Muirhall Energy, currently developing the Glen Ullinish II Wind Farm in Skye, has awarded a £4,452 funding boost to Skye Stroke Friends, helping the charity to continue to deliver its lifeline recovery services to stroke survivors and to launch its new Sunflower fund, providing independent living aids.

Established in 2017, Skye Stroke Friends is an independent charity that provides services across Skye and Raasay - delivering weekly activities and initiatives to advance the health and mobility of stroke survivors living locally.

By hosting weekly group sessions and sharing resources, the charity aims to improve memory, support speech and cognitive recovery, mobility, confidence and emotional well-being.

The funding was provided by Muirhall Energy through its Quarterly Funding Panel, which is open to all communities who live near its projects currently in development. Combined with support from the Budhmor Fund, the funding award from Muirhall Energy has enabled Skye Stroke Friends to establish the Sunflower Fund - helping to meet identified needs of those in our community who are adjusting to significant and far reaching life changes.

Marjory Jagger at Skye Stroke Friends commented:

“We are very grateful to Muirhall Energy for their financial support and for taking the time to come along to visit our group at Skeabost Hall. Together with the Budhmor Fund this has enabled us to strengthen the services we provide and enhance the support we deliver for stroke survivors across Skye.

“The Sunflower Fund is open to all stroke survivors living on Skye and Raasay, irrespective of whether they attend the Skye Stroke Friends Support Group meetings. The donation by Muirhall Energy will go towards helping us to fund small items of equipment to aid recovery and independence. From reachers and grabbers to kitchen and dining equipment. Sometimes the smallest of things can make the biggest of differences.”

The Sunflower Fund will be open from January 2026 and stroke survivors are encouraged to apply by contacting their local NHS Highland Allied Health Professionals.

Siobhan Jarvie, Communities Manager at Muirhall Energy said:

“We are proud to support a charity whose work has such a meaningful and positive impact and we really enjoyed visiting the group and hearing from the individuals what it means to them. Our funding for Skye Stroke Friends enables the continued delivery of these essential services that make a real difference to individuals and their families as they navigate their recovery journey.

“Supporting local communities is at the heart of what we do, and this project represents exactly the kind of positive, lasting impact we aim to deliver.”

Muirhall Energy welcomes funding applications from community groups close to its renewable energy proposals and meets quarterly to award grants.
