Tormywheel is an operational 15 turbine south west of Breich, West Lothian. The site was acquired in the latter part of 2015 and Muirhall Energy are managing the operation of the project. The development supplies 24,816 local homes, based on average electricity consumption in West Lothian.
Following successful construction by Muirhall Energy, the Tormywheel Windfarm has now been sold.
Muirhall Energy has set up a Community Benefit Fund and has engaged with residents on the distribution of this. A fixed annual payment of £5,000 per megawatt (MW) of installed capacity will be provided, index-linked to account for inflation. This amounts to approximately £150,000 per annum, or £3.75 million over the 25 year lifetime of the proposed development.
